The   Official   Opening   of   the   Refurbished   facilities   at   St.   Stephen   in   Brannel   Bowling   Club   took place   on   Saturday   7 th    November   2015.      The   facilities   were   jointly   opened   by   Mrs.   Shirley   Coad, Bowls   Cornwall   President   and   Mrs.   Wendy   Reading,   Fund   Manager,   SITA   Cornwall   Trust.      Shirley and   Wendy   unveiled   a   plaque   made   by   Club   Member,   Paul   Stokes   of   Southwest   Engravers   which dedicated   the   refurbished   facilities   to   Club   members   past   and   present   who   have   assisted   with Club improvements over the years.   The   refurbishment   included   the   demolition   of   the   existing   changing   rooms   and   toilets   and   the building   of   an   extension   onto   the   Pavilion   with   new   maintenance   and   equipment   stores.      This   work was   undertaken   by   Lewis   Construction,   Nicholson   Electrics   and   Graham   Whitehead   Welding   and Fabrication. Over    £100,000    in    grant    monies    was    secured    from    Sport    England,    SITA    Cornwall    Trust,    St. Stephen    in    Brannel    Parish    Council,    the    Radio    Cornwall    Appeal    and    the    Cornwall    Councillor Community Grant. Letters   of   support   were   received   from   Bowls   Cornwall,   Bowls   England,   Councillor   Des   Curnow,   St. Stephen   Recreation   Ground   Committee,   St.   Stephen   in   Brannel   Parish   Council,   the   Women’s Institute,   the   Sunshine   Club,   St.   Stephen   Football   Club,   Telstar   Youth   Club,   the   Cornwall   Sports Partnership and various Bowling Club members.    The   Official   Opening   gave   the   Club   the   opportunity   to   thank   all   those   individuals   and   organisations who   helped   in   some   way   to   make   this   refurbishment   possible.   Over   70   people   attended   and Christine   Hore,   Club   President   was   delighted   that   she   was   able   to   thank   everyone   for   their contribution   towards   this   refurbishment   which   is   a   great   asset   to   the   Club   and   she   thanked   the Recreation Ground Committee for making it possible to secure the grants.  The   Club   has   held   a   number   of   activities   during   the   winter   months   -   Carpet   Bowls,   Euchre Sessions, Coffee Mornings and Bingo. Michael   Jennings,   the   Bowls   England   President,   opened   the   Bowling   Green   for   the   2016   Season on   the   9 th    April.      Members   were   joined   by   representatives   from   other   local   Bowling   Clubs   and some   special   local   guests   to   celebrate   their   refurbished   facilities   at   the   start   of   what   hopefully   will be a successful season.
